Tempe First United Methodist Church (TFUMC) is a dedicated and caring community located in Tempe, AZ. Our vision is to be committed followers of Christ, providing an inclusive community of faith in which people can come to know the transformational power of the love of Jesus. We are looking for an A/V Manager who will join us in our vision of putting God’s love for the world into action
TFUMC Purpose Statement
Putting God’s love for the world into action.
TFUMC Values:
Love | Community | Compassion | Prayer | Service
Statement of Inclusivity:
We believe that God invites all of us to participate and experience God’s steadfast love. With this in mind, TFUMC is a church that welcomes all people – no matter where you come from, who you are, who you love, how you dress, how you identify, or how you believe. It’s simple, God loves without expectation or judgment, and so we love without expectation or judgment.
Description: Part-time (5-7 hours/week) hourly position / Supervisor Responsibilities:
Oversees A/V Assistant and A/V Volunteers.
Reports To: Pastor or her/his designated representative.
Professional abilities, while important, are only seen through the lens of the whole person. Thus, emotional health, maturity, and well-being, including the execution of solid personal and professional boundaries, are paramount.
I. Demeanor and Attitudinal Expectations. Successful execution of this job will include the following:
· The demeanor of the A/V Manager needs to be that of a growing example of a self-disciplined imitation of Christ.
· The ability to exude both confidence in the staff and volunteers that their work is important. A core part of this job expectation is to communicate the joy of working here with the people of TFUMC.
· The ability to recognize and use conflict inherent in human interaction to enrich and deepen relationships in the congregation is important. (Far more important than being right are the abilities to listen, hear beneath the voice, love the person, and leverage the opportunity to disciple individuals through quiet example and careful instruction.)
· The ability to maintain and foster trust in the congregation by keeping strict confidence. Gossip and rumor spreading are destructive and will not be tolerated.
· A staff person is set apart in managing their stress and concerns. Namely, complaints and concerns go up the ladder to the supervising staff member or pastor, NOT into the body of the congregation.
· The awareness by the A/V Manager of their own limitations, inabilities, and failings will be regarded as a sign of maturity and opportunity:
o For intentional growth toward expanding and deepening a professional skill set.
o For respecting the importance of the community of the church to work together: the professional strength of delegation and asking for help are revered.
